By Dr Craig R. Muller, author of the Super-Cube® Leadership Model

Leadership is not a gift handed to a lucky few. It can be learnt, practised and measured, by anyone, at any age. I want that idea in as many hands as possible, so from today my short book, The Super-Cube® Leadership Model: Igniting Africa's potential and accelerating humanity's progress, is free to download, read and share. There is no sign-up and no payment: just the PDF.

What is inside

In 71 pages and 13 short chapters, the book sets out the six faces of the Super-Cube® model, with you at the centre: Choices, Principles, Mental, Emotional, Physical and Spiritual. It is written to be used, not just read:

  • A chapter on each face, with a story, practices and one thing you can do today.
  • 36 practices you can start this week, and six self-assessment workbook pages.
  • A 30-day action plan to begin building your own Super-Cube®.
  • From self to society: how the model scales from one leader to teams, organisations and communities.
  • Leaders for the Global Goals: a new chapter on why every one of the UN Sustainable Development Goals needs leaders.
  • A foreword by Dr Housainou Taal, Director of the African Leadership Institute.

You can see every chapter on the free book page.

Where the model comes from

The Super-Cube® grew out of my Doctor of Business Administration at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (thesis 2020, degree conferred 2021): an 18-item survey of 132 people in an African FMCG business network, followed by in-depth interviews with senior leaders. Since then it has been developed and tested in practice. When leaders at Imana Foods and Kerry Foods completed a 12-week accredited Super-Cube® leadership intervention, their average assessment scores rose by 32.2 percentage points across the six faces, including Principles +45.1, Emotional +39.5 and Spiritual +24.6. Those gains come from that intervention, not from the thesis. They are changes in group averages, in percentage points, and describe those cohorts rather than promise a result for every reader. The full results are in our FMCG case study.

Why I am giving it away

When 33 Grade 12 learners at a leading high school in South Africa answered a leadership questionnaire after a brief Super-Cube® leadership intervention, 94% said leadership is important and 88% said they would like to develop their leadership using a scientific approach. Not one had a leadership model they actually used (field snapshot; self-reported answers, not before-and-after results). The wish to grow is there; the missing piece is a model. A free book is the simplest way I know to put one in people's hands.

Coming soon: the comprehensive edition

This free book is the short introduction. Leadership Is Learnable, the comprehensive edition, goes much further: the full research and evidence behind the model, each face in depth, and how to develop leaders at every level. It is coming soon on Amazon, in paperback and as an e-book, and we will share the news here when it is out.

Download it, then pass it on
